One Month Complete! New Flat, New Flab and Can I Get a New Foot?

I can’t believe it has already been a month since I have been in Australia.  That’s right, I am almost at the one month mark and no longer so “fresh of the boat/plane/taxi?” And guess who finally got a flaaaat to move intooooooo!?!? Thats’ Right!

THIS FROG CHICK !

Sad to leave the hostel ONLY because of the friends I made and  will miss.  Hostel life was a growing experience for me and  I am beyond happy I decided to stay in them and get out of my comfort zone (I mean my so far far far away zone of no comfort I cannot even begin to explain zone!!). But mentally, my time expired there, and I am ready to move on to this next stage of this journey.  But hey, Aat least I went out with a BANG! Or, a onesie party.. you know, same thing!

FLAT, CONDO, APARTMENT

Call it what you want to call it… I GOT ONE!

a;kdsfjal#^%$#skfjdsl*&kfjsldkjf <— Sheer Excitement!!

After weeks of searching, I finally found the perfect spot for me to rest my bug hating little American Head. The flat is located ocean front on Dee Why Beach, with everything I need just down the street on either side of me.  We have a beautiful view of the water right in front and a ping pong table in the living room for me to practice my ninja ping pong skills.  WIFI! Check! TV, Check! BBQ, a large deck and cool roommates!?! Check. I  am renting the room out with two Aussie guys in their mid 20’s, both,  who are of course  very “chill”, what else would they be? I was FINALLY able to unpack my bags and words cannot describe how that made me feel. Oh wait! Yes they can!

I was Deliriously happily overjoyed!!

AND THEN THERE WAS THIS

The funny thing though, as I began unpacking the 200 pieces of clothing that I ohhhh so had to bring, is that NONE of it fits me anymore.. seriously (minus one skirt).   In retrospect, I should of thought more…… logically, when packing (Mom stop dancing, yes I should of listened to you!).  Normally when I go on a week vacation, I will gain about 3- 5 pounds due to the amount of eating and drinking I participate in when away. Right? Who goes on vacation and doesn’t gain at least a few pounds? Well…I, me, stupid me, did not take in to consideration the fact I was planning on vacationing the first 3 to 4 weeks when I got here. So lets do the math shall we….

Week 1 Vacation + Week 2 Vacation + Week 3 Vacation +Week 4 Vacation

(3-5 pounds)4 = and  the drum roll pleaseeee…

That’s right, I have gained EASILY, 12 to 20 pounds.  But, not sure how!?!?!  🙂IMG_1396IMG_1344 IMG_1505IMG_1380

All I know is that until I get rid of this new found blubber, it’s time to buy some new clothes!  My dumb ass should of packed a size or two bigger in preparation of this dilemma. It’s neat, I have actually never been this big? In my life? Its quite weird for me to look in the mirror so, I avoid it more than usual. And I am actually not really caring? Maybe because I am comfortable with who I am as a person and in my own skin regardless of what I look like..maybe the rolls aren’t big enough yet? Or maybe because I know I can without a doubt get rid of it soon as my vacation period  comes to an end (which is NOW). I am not sure. But what I do know is that I have bigger problems to deal with right now! Like maybe my infected glass shanked foot!

My Foot –  I do not want to get super into this. So keeping it short and sweet. (sparing you all the picture of it, trust me.. you are welcome!)

  • Stepped on Glass, awesome
  • 2 weeks later foot swollen and infected, sweet
  • Went to the doctor, sucked
  • I Limp like weirdo with a stick up her butt, fact
  • Pain still very  high, double fact
  • Will go to hospital tomorrow if not better, that may be a lie
  • This country needs to give pain meds 🙂

Little Manly Point

IMG_1328j

Since I  am now the owner of BOTH a foot and wardrobe that are completely useless to me, I have only been able to go on a few explorations. The first of these expeditions was Little Manly Point, which takes about 45 minutes to walk to from my hostel, but took an hour and a half in my condition. It is on  the north east of the wharf and takes up a big reserve located on the tip of Manly. It was gorgeous with a small beach, waterfalls and plenty of views to look at.  I came across a sign that said there was wild penguins and almost freaked out!!!! A dream come true for this penguin lover. Unsuccessfully, minus a few iguanas, I did not see any penguins. I will need to go back and go further north next time. With my stupid foot and my growling tummy, after 90 minutes of walking I knew it was time to head back to the hostel

Kangaroos, Spiders and Crocs, OH MY!

I finally got to see some kangerfuckingroos!!! Though not 100 percent in the wild, I did get a chance  to see them at the Wild Life Zoo in Darling Harbor. Most of the animal in the zoo looked like some big odd large rat dog creature. It got to the point I couldn’t tell the difference between them anymore and had to rely on the informational guides for everything. One thing that did catch my eye was the worlds most deadliest spider the funnel web spider. Looking at it through the glass gave me the heebie jeebies!!  The most memorable animal for me was the huge dinosaurus looking thing… the Crocodile!! I  knew they were big.. I knew they were dangerous.. bu u u u ut I never anticipated such  a mighty creature!!!  IT WAS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ginormous. I could never imagine running into one without that glass there. Between the sharks and the crocs, my ass is not going into any water down under!

Australian Television

Ever since the plane ride over from LA, I have not watched an ounce of television due to not having a television to watch, and well, I didn’t really want to! “Explore! explore! Do not be a couch potato! ” is what still consumes my mind. Now that I am in my flat, still unemployed, and with only one working foot, I have finally got my first taste of watching Aussie TV. I still am not familiar with any Australian television shows, as everything appears to be our old American syndicated shows.  And not just any shows….I am talking ummm the crap shows!  I turned on the television and Sabrina the Teenage Witch was on. Long LONG gone back home. 7th Heaven was on. Also long gone. No wonder Australians are so active, they are stuck watching all of are our old shit television shows from 10 years ago!! I also noticed that they air Hells Kitchen (reruns) last night. Back home every bad word is bleeped out. Here? Oh noo, not here! You get to hear and love all the crazy shit Gordon says.  Watched an episode I have already seen 3 times back home last night, and it was like watching a whole different show. There was no bleeeeepppppppppps. I also saw some really “interesting” late night commercials. One was advertising a dating site for cougars!!!! Why is not in Orange County!?!I almost died… Have a look..

11 MONTHS TO  GO

“Every day is a journey, and the journey itself is home” – Matsuo Basho

I now have 11 months left on the visa that I am currently holding and I plan to continue to make a life for myself here Australia.  Now I am permanently stationed here in Dee Why Beach,  where I still have many adventures and expeditions awaiting me (once my zombie foot goes away).  It is now time for me to find some local friends, find my local gym (Yes Please!), befriend the local cops, and locate my local bartender to annoy. I miss Manly, as it was my first home, but I am quite assured this will win me over times a thousand more, and Manly is just a few minutes away. What I label the “vacation period” is now completed, just in time for my MBA program to begin next week. I am getting low on funds,  am footless, blubbery, and even burnt off a good chunk of my hair trying to use my American blow dryer for the first time:/

It is now 100 percent job search time and no more ridiculously spending time. No more wasting money on 30 dollar solo dinners, no more 30 dollar apple ciders, no more fro yo everyday. It is back to cereal and eggs for a while till I have some what of an income.  I have submitted my resume 1,999 times now, and still waiting on a good offer. I have already received a few bad ones that no way in hell am I going to accept. Oh My!  The offer I got on Gumtree today!!!! The strangest offer (to stay the least) hahaha.. but I will cover that and a few of the other “offers” in my next post.. trust me.. you will want to stay tuned 🙂

Lastly, I wanted to say a big thank you to morgantheperson for nominating me for  The Versatile Blogger Award. Go check out her awesome blog here. Looking forward to writing a post on this along with the fellow nominates 🙂

Even though I feel like Australia is TOTALLY kicking my ass right now..

I still freakin love this place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. Hey,

Great post, glad you found a place. Was it pretty difficult for you to find a place? Did it take very long? I do a lot of research on the market over there but it can be completely different when you actually get to the city.

  2. Glad you found a place and it looks very nice. The view and sunset is stunning. Enjoying your blog! Hope you heal soon!

  3. Hey, welcome to Australia 🙂
Hope you enjoy your year over here, it sounds like you will. Good to hear you got out of the hostel, those places are rough.
Don’t take a job from Gumtree, unless you want to be a skimpy barmaid or worse.
    Good luck

  4. Haha I really enjoyed your post. It’s interesting to see Australia through the eyes of a tourist. Welcome! I’m glad you’re in a flat now. Be wary of Gumtree. I look forward to your next post 🙂

  5. I can’t believe they bleep out Gordan Ramsay in the U.S! Here in the U.K, most of our after the watershed shows wouldn’t work with bleeps!! Love that cougar ad, maybe I should move to oz too 😉
